Super stylist Frederic Fekkai believes in topping off a gorgeous updo with just the right hair accessory. Everything from crystal-encrusted hair sticks to sparkling ponytail holders and barrettes add glamour to any hairstyle, and Fekkai has some great tips for choosing the perfect ornament.
In his column for American Salon Magazine (Nov. 2004), Fekkai says that "nearly all hair lengths can benefit from being dressed up with an accessory."
For long hair, he recommends adding a silk poppy or flower hair pin to liven up a simple chignon. A wide satin headband or thin headband belt is just the thing to stylishly hold back shoulder-length hair. And short hair looks extra-special when you add a decorative bobby pin or hair clip.
Fekkai recommends running through the following check list when choosing the perfect accessory:
-
Take into account your own personal style and taste when choosing a hair accessory. For instance, if you prefer classic hairstyles, stick with an elegant accessory instead of a funky one.
-
Take a good look at the proportion and shape of your face. Fekkai recommends against using large hair accessories if you have a petite face. Instead, choose a delicate headband or hair pin. If you have more pronounced features, you can get away with a wide head wrap or chunky accessory.
-
Consider your eye color and skin tone, and choose accessories that compliment your features, not clash with them.
